Things I can’t live without when I travel, Part 2: Tech Items

I have been working in animal health for 12 years now, and some of these items have been with me almost as long!

15 foot flathead extension cord.

15ft/flat head/angle extension cord – for those hotels that do not have modern plug in options, this guy will fit nearly anywhere! I like it separate from my surge protector because if space is at a premium I can leave the extension cord at home.

Portable Surge Protector

Portable Surge Protector – This is not the same one I have but I would buy it if I was shopping today. I also recommend compiling a full set of dedicated adapter cords to live in your suitcase – separate from those in your computer “personal” bag.

Personal bag/laptop bag – This bag must have a strap that slides over the extended handle of my carry on, roomy for lots of things including my purse, and still look nice enough to carry into meetings. A laptop charger lives in this bag, plus a whole set of all the other cords I need.

Portable screen – If you do a lot of work that is easiest with 2 screens, then don’t let travel slow you down! These weigh nearly nothing, fit in the bottom of the carry or in my personal bag, and make admin work on the road much less miserable.

Lastly – I always have to have my iPhone Notes App: When I decide I need to add something, or something is missing, or my face wash is almost out, I have a running list I keep on my phone.  I usually just throw clothes in an hour before I am leaving on a trip and I hate showing up on a trip missing something because I forgot I needed to restock!
